A Child Advocate is devoted to removing children from dangerous and harmful situations and protecting them from further abuse. A child advocate could be a parent of the child, a teacher, a therapist, social worker or even a neighbor. Often times, those who advocate for children are the victims of abuse by the person who abused the child and even by the legal system they turn to for help. Without the support of foundations like "Protect Connor", advocates are often jailed, financially devastated and eventually unable to continue to help the children who are being abused. Child abuse including parental alienation, emotional abuse, neglect, physical abuse and sexual abuse are continued major concerns in protecting our children and our future, and advocates of these small victims are the key to ending the vicious cycle of abuse. Child abuse effects all areas of our lives even when one is not exposed personally. As many as one out of three girls and one out of five boys is victimized in some way. This means that many of your friends and relatives are victims of abuse. Your efforts to protect children are critical, and you shouldn’t become a victim for being a hero. Protecting you and abused children is our cause.
What is the Protect Connor Foundation? We have applied as a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the intervention and prevention of child abuse, parental alienation and for the support of those adults who advocate for them. Is there a Board of Directors? Yes. We currently have five Board Members. What kinds of things can I do to help? Our goal is to put an end to the abuse of children and that takes money! We're always in need of financial support. Everyone has an opportunity to help, by making a donation, becoming a volunteer or simply spreading awareness. Awareness is the first step in prevention. Fear can cause a person to think and do illogical things. Adult people have been known to run right back into a house on fire because of fear. When a child advocate fears for the safety of a child, they can do almost anything without what may seem to be reasonable to a person removed from the situation.Because of this deep conviction to the abused child’s safety, child advocates are REAL HERO’S and they need our support and help. Imagine, if you can, what would be going through the mind of a child who for the better part of their young life knows only hurt, pain and indifference. Even a child living in constant physical, sexual and mental abuse at home will prefer that to the unknown. If the only thing they know is abuse then they believe that everyone lives with abuse. They would believe that abuse is normal and equate love with abuse. If the abuse to this child is allowed to continue they will grow up reinforced with the knowledge that love equals abuse. The cycle continues the numbers grow. Child advocates break this horrible cycle of abuse through their strength and courage.
